Milling Around is a unique mercantile shop specializing in antiques and unusual gifts including everything from vintage posters to a cigar store Indian. Along with vintage finds, we offer repurposed goods and newly handcrafted, locally-sourced products….and more.
Our selection includes the largest U.S. collection of wooden bobbins and other mill relics that once served in the production of silk, woolen, and cotton goods. We recycle these pieces of history into decorative candle holders and curios…lamps, kaleidoscopes, jump ropes and other functional and fun pieces.
Milling Around is proud to be the retail gallery for the striking and heartwarming artwork created by renowned local artist Maurice “Jake” Day who “crossed mountain ridges and hiked into coastal villages, across solitary islands and secluded meadows gathering inspiration for his captivating land and seascapes and his unique, imaginative art where animals are humorously personified in a variety of human endeavors.”
The shop is also the official retailer of Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration Project gear, selling beautifully designed logo t-shirts and hats as well as other alewife-themed items. All proceeds are donated to the restoration project.
